Serena Eades was born and raised in Roberts Creek, BC where she began playing the violin at a young age with teachers Katie Angermeyer, Michelle Bruce and Kathleen Hovey. She has since received a Bachelor of Music degree through Capilano College and Brandon University, and has further studied classical violin with Nancy DiNovo, Ann Elliott-Goldschmid, Tatiana Zatina, and Kerry Duwors.

Well into her violin studies, Serena took up other genres of playing; exploring Cape Breton, Bluegrass, Jazz, and Gypsy music, having had opportunities to study with Natalie MacMaster, Calvin Vollrath, Matt Glaser, David Greenberg, Jerry Holland, Celso Machado, and many other inspiring artists. She has played in a number of classical as well as non-classical ensembles including a number of orchestras and ensembles on the Sunshine Coast, the West Coast Symphony (Vancouver), the Vancouver Youth Symphony Orchestra, Brandon University Orchestra, Orquesta de Camara in Colima, Mexico (while studying music at the Universidad de Colima), and various pit orchestras in BC and Manitoba.

After playing traditional music for a few years with pianist Wade Tarling, she performed with a self-titled band which lead to a duo project with pianist/singer Gary Loewen and performed at the Springville World

Serena currently plays with The Rakish Angles (www.rakishangles.com) based on the Sunshine Coast of B.C. 'The Angles' blend string band tradition and contemporary imagination to produce a polished and exciting sound. Serena joins guitarist/luthier Dan Richter (www.dragonflyguitars.com), mandolinist Simon Hocking, and stand-up bassist Boyd Norman in a quartet that weaves an intricate mosaic of mostly original Jazz, Bluegrass, Latin, Celtic, and Gypsy pieces. The Angles are a confluence of original talent and experience in the realms of composition, arrangement, and performance. Look out for the release and tour of their first album in the Spring of 2009.

Serena's personal playing style now reflects both her classical training and background in folk music as well as desire to explore other world musics and improvisation. She also teaches many enthusiastic young and young-at-heart violinists out of her home, and has worked at the Sunshine Coast School of Celtic Music, Lynn Valley Music, and MELOmania Music. In her spare “non-music-making related” time she works as an events coordinator for the Roberts Creek Community Association, is on the Board of Directors of the Sunshine Coast Festival of the Performing Arts, and works as a promoter for live music events on the Sunshine Coast, including productions for Caravan World Rhythms and the Sunshine Coast Jazz & Entertainment Society.
