The Board of Directors of the Sunshine Coast Arts Council Arts Centre invites you to make a contribution of goods and services to the 2008 Illumination Art Auction and Gala. We've chosen this theme to acknowledge the important and enlightening place of art in our community. Your contribution to this event will help the Sunshine Coast Arts Council continue its work to support artists and the arts on the Sunshine Coast as we have been doing since 1966. CONSIGNMENT CONTRIBUTIONS WELCOME (can include works by other artists or valuable and unique objects from your collection) ~ read on We are proposing this year to take your work on consignment for the Auction, the SCAC + AC receiving the benefit of 40% commission on the sales at the Auction. Of course, if you wish to make a contribution to the Auction and grant the SCAC + AC the whole price of your work, we will be grateful! We would appreciate hearing from you about the work you will provide to the Auction as soon as possible and in any case by April 30th, 2008, by 5:00pm. It will be necessary for you to deliver your work to the Arts Centre in Sechelt by Wednesday May 7th, 2008, at 3:00pm. Please label each piece with a brief description of the work, medium/media, size, price, title, date of work, your name and place of residence, including your telephone number, and email for our reference. We will be able to put photographs of your work on our website and would appreciate a high resolution jpg photo of the piece/s you will submit. The work will be on display in the Doris Crowston Gallery at the Sunshine Coast Arts Centre in Sechelt, at the Opening Reception for the preview exhibit on Wednesday May 14th, 2008 and continuing for ten days before the Illumination Auction & Gala, to be held on Saturday May 24th, 2008, at the Sunshine Coast Arts Centre in Sechelt. Tickets will be available at the Arts Centre. The Sunshine Coast Arts Council is a volunteer-based society that raises 80% of its annual budget by local fundraising efforts such as the Auction. The Arts Council operates and maintains the Sunshine Coast Arts Centre located at Trail & Medusa in Sechelt. Over the years the Arts Centre has been a vital resource for the artistic and cultural life of the Coast community. It incorporates a public gallery showcasing the work of Coast artists and guest artists from off coast, a music studio housing a community piano and a public art studio. The proceeds from this Auction help the Arts Council provide year-round Art Exhibits in the Gallery, music performances at the Centre and at other venues, and literary readings by published Canadian authors. The SCAC also provides a series of awards for artists and musicians of all ages and publishes a newsletter highlighting Coast wide arts events, issues and personalities. Thanks to the generosity of artists and other donors, novice and seasoned collectors alike will appreciate the broad spectrum of items for sale.
