Sunshine Coast Arts Council
Executive Director, Frances Wasserlein

The Board of Directors of Sunshine Coast Arts Council is pleased to announce the hiring of Frances Wasserlein as its new Executive Director. Frances has a long history of involvement with the arts and culture both on the Sunshine Coast and in the lower mainland. Frances has provided administration and consulting services to the Gibsons Landing Fibre Arts Festival, and the PuSh International Festival of Performing Arts. In addition, Frances worked for the Vancouver Folk Music Festival and was the Executive Producer from January 1998 to December 2004, on the seasonal production staff from 1988-1997, and volunteered from 1981 - 1987. She's now teaching a course in Festival Management in the Arts & Entertainment Management program at Capilano College's North Vancouver Campus.

In addition to this experience, Frances has excellent ties with the BC Arts Council, one of the major funders of the SCAC. From 1991 to 2001 Frances was a member of the British Columbia Arts Board, and its successor the British Columbia Arts Council, and was Programme Committee Chair on the Council from 1996 - 2001. With a BA (Hons) in History [UBC, 1980] and an MA in History [SFU, 1990] Frances taught Women's Studies and Canadian and British Columbia Women's History at Langara College and Simon Fraser University from 1990 - 1997.

Frances' extraordinary experience base provides the SCAC with tremendous opportunities to serve and support the community of the Sunshine Coast in the arts and culture. Frances' main focus will be on membership development and fundraising.
